"long_description": "Pyka’s goal is to provide society with a new form of safe, clean, and cost-effective transportation enabled by autonomous electric aviation. \r\n\r\nTo get there, we’re taking a different approach than most. We're applying our technologies to every industry where autonomous electric aircraft can be useful, starting with the highest value and most dangerous jobs. In doing so, we're building game-changing products manufactured at scale, while perfecting the safety, reliability, and capabilities of our autonomy engine and electric propulsion systems. \r\n\r\nWe design, develop and manufacture an ecosystem of technologies including proprietary flight control software, avionics, high power density motors, motor controllers, batteries, and custom carbon-fiber composite airframes.\r\n\r\nToday, we supply autonomous electric aircraft for cargo transport and crop protection to real-world customers across four separate continents and have secured industry-first regulatory approvals from the FAA. \r\n\r\nOur cargo aircraft enables remote connectivity, enhances express delivery networks, and ensures fast and reliable shipping of critical supplies to areas in need. Our crop protection aircraft offers agricultural services providers and farmers an autonomous tool to make aerial application safer, more precise, and less harmful to surrounding environments. Both vehicles are highly economical to operate, easy to deploy, and significantly reduce C02 emissions in their respective industries. \r\n\r\nWhat you work on at Pyka makes people’s lives better now and brings the future of electric aviation one step closer each day. \r\n",

"long_description": "Seaflight Technologies has developed a new form of Aerodynamic Flow Control for electrified aircraft that increases range and payload by 30%. That's the same performance improvement you'd get from hopping in a DeLorean to 2035 and coming back with batteries from the future. But it's available today - our tech has been derisked by testing supported by the National Science Foundation, the US Air Force, and the Australian Government. \r\n\r\nOur first product is a simple fixed-wing large cargo drone that is efficient enough to remove the \"green penalty\" currently associated with electric aviation. That's a step change from today's conventional platforms. \r\n\r\nFirst generation electric aircraft are heavy, expensive, complicated, and limited in terms of range and payload. In the entire history of aviation, that's never been a winning formula. When everyone already has access to the same batteries, materials, and motors, what really makes the difference? The answer is revolutionary aerodynamics, but in a form factor that suits today's operations and manufacturing. \r\n\r\nBeyond our own drone product line, we have partners across Aerospace helping incorporate our tech into their products. In the future, if you want to have the most efficient and cost-effective flying machine of any description, you'll need Seaflight's Flow Control inside. \r\n\r\n",

"answer": "Seaflight originally started out by developing “wingships”, ultra-low altitude craft that fly just a few ft above the waves for extra efficiency. After 6 prototypes and a series of record-breaking flights in Australia, the performance and market data wasn’t adding up, **so the company undertook a pivot.** With backing from the National Science Foundation and the US Air Force we developed our Aerodynamic Flow Control and immediately felt stronger pull from customers for our ultra-efficient cargo drone - one that can operate from any short airfield, anywhere. The Australian Government has funded our $2m project to develop a full flight demonstrator of our cargo drone by 2026, which will also serve as our first saleable product to early adopters in Defense and commercial operators. Taking advantage of cutting-edge high lift technologies that we have government funding to develop, a much broader range of applications is on the horizon as we aim to be a global leader in large capacity drones as well as a high-value developer of key tech that can be used by every company pursuing electrified flight. We aim to show it’s possible \\*now\\* to cut costs, cut emissions, cut time, and cut worries globally with electric flight that is focused on extreme efficiency, not crazy complexity."

"tagline": "We use aerodynamic magic to make electric aircraft good enough to take over aviation",
"body": "Hi everyone, Graham here, founder at Seaflight Technologies. We developed an aerodynamic technology for any fixed-wing aircraft that makes it possible to carry more payload, over longer distances - perfect for electric aviation to overcome the limitations of today’s batteries. Our first product is a large cargo drone called AURAE. \n\n![uploaded image](/media/?type=post&id=65921&key=user_uploads/881099/5f0e8973-d450-4958-aff1-e4820d36eae7)\n\n\n### **BATTERIES ARE NOT VERY GOOD**\n\nAviation is incredibly hard to decarbonize, and first generation electric aircraft are proving to be heavy, expensive, complicated, and limited in range. That formula has never been successful in the history of aviation. Could we just wait for better batteries? Not great - emissions keep rising, and progress is incremental - a few % improvement each year means a few % more range... What about better motors, or lighter structures? There’s a few % still on the table there too, sure.\n\nBut if you could _double_ the aerodynamic efficiency, you could double the range that’s possible with today’s batteries. \n\nSeaflight uses Aerodynamic Flow Control. It’s tech that suits today’s operations, manufacturing approaches, and form factors, and we’ve de-risked it to the point where it’s ready to fly. \n\n### **CONTROL THE AIR**\n\n**Thanks to over $2m in backing from the National Science Foundation, the US Air Force, and the Australian Government**, we’ve been able to develop and test our Aerodynamic Flow Control - an active system that pulls more air over the wing when we need it (takeoff and landing), but otherwise adds almost no mass or drag to the aircraft (unlike adding extra propulsion). \n\nBecause we triple the lift only when we need it, we can have smaller wings. Smaller wings mean less drag in cruise, which means much less energy used. \n\n**This is key enabling technology to make electric flight viable.** \n\nOur upcoming large scale flight demonstrator will take to the skies over Australia in early 2026, with a production version to follow. \n\nBest of all, this is universal technology. Every plane has wings… Seaflight’s tech can go on every plane. \n\n![uploaded image](/media/?type=post&id=65921&key=user_uploads/881099/4b0649c0-2cb1-47d2-900d-a8b8791842cf)\n\n\n### **HOW DID WE GET HERE**\n\nWill Sutton and Graham Doig founded Seaflight Technologies heading into the S22 batch. We originally worked on ultra-low-altitude “ground effect” flight. After 6 prototypes and a series of world-first flight achievements, we realized the numbers didn’t add up to viable economics. After pivoting to aerodynamic flow control and developing the new IP, including a test campaign at Caltech, it’s time to make the AURAE flight demonstrator a reality and break some world records for electric flight. \n\n### **About the founder :**\n\nGraham Doig has a PhD in aerodynamics and has worked on electric mobility for 19 years, including 2 world land speed records. He led the aero/range team at EV startup Canoo, and was a Lockheed Martin-endowed professor of engineering in a past life, working on projects with the likes of Tesla and NASA. \n\n### **Lastly, Asks 🙏**\n\nDo you know anyone involved in **logistics** that has already been looking at or using drone technology?\n\nDo you know any **wizards in electric or autonomous mobility** who are looking for a bonkers new professional challenge?",

"body": "Hi! We’re [Bob](https://www.linkedin.com/in/bobcriner/) & [Stuart](https://www.linkedin.com/in/stuartjohnstone1/) from [Stralis Aircraft](https://stralis.aero/) in Australia. We make emission free hydrogen electric aircraft to help decarbonise air travel. We have $50M in LOIs for our launch product, a 15 seat aircraft with a range of 800 km that enters service in 2026 [with launch customer Skytrans](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jun/30/queensland-airline-skytrans-unveils-plans-for-australias-first-hydrogen-fuelled-plane).\n\n![uploaded image](/media/?type=post&id=70037&key=user_uploads/1205655/4a8710bf-c888-40cf-9f99-5e2f9c82b9ce)\n\n**Ask:** 🙏 Intros to airlines or aircraft operators that might be interested in our products would be greatly appreciated. Contact: [bc@stralis.aero](mailto:bc@stralis.aero)\n\n**Problem - Alternatives Compromise on Range or Cost**\n\nAs other modes of transport decarbonise, aviation’s contribution to global emissions will increase. Based on our first hand experience, we believe other sustainable flight alternatives compromise on:\n\n* Battery Electric - limited range & payload\n* Hybrid Electric - expensive to operate, limited emission reduction\n* Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) - expensive & emits other harmful pollutants (NOx, sulphates, particulates)\n\n**Solution - Hydrogen Electric Propulsion**\n\nWe're convinced hydrogen electric is the cheapest way to rapidly decarbonise 50% of commercial flights.\n\n* How it works - Green hydrogen and air are combined in a fuel cell stack to produce electric power, which is used by an electric motor to turn a propeller. The only thing emitted during this process is water.\n* Our proprietary hydrogen electric propulsion system is 35% lighter than the competition, unlocking useful aircraft ranges at low cost.\n* Our first product is a retrofit of an already certified aircraft, allowing us to get to market quicker and cheaper.\n* We plan to deliver 50,000 of our 48 seat SA-1 aircraft by 2050, generating $850B in revenue.\n\n**Our Backstory**\n\nWe met in 2017 at [magniX](https://www.magnix.aero/), leading teams developing electric aircraft propulsion systems for the world’s first battery powered eBeaver and eCaravan flights. The Stralis team has 85 years of aerospace experience, having developed, flight tested and certified aircraft at GoogleX, [Heart Aerospace (YC W19)](https://heartaerospace.com/), [Ampaire](https://www.ampaire.com/), Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier and Gulfstream. Now we’re on a mission to make Stralis the world’s leading emission free aircraft company. Spread the good word!\n\n![uploaded image](/media/?type=post&id=70037&key=user_uploads/1205655/03a6b905-1ceb-47e8-a006-4f45dcfaec8b)\n\n",
