When a user creates their unique Notebook, they can prove their humanity and credentials to protocols across wallets and chains, without having to reveal any personal information.\n\nAnd they can do all of this with or without a wallet.\n\n**🕵🏽 The Identity Problem on Web3** \n\nOn blockchains, users identify themselves with wallet addresses, providing limited privacy or accountability. Malicious actors can easily re-identify themselves through new wallet addresses, making it difficult for protocols to prevent fraud or Sybil-attacks. Until accountability is brought to Web3, governments, banks, and other trusted systems have little incentive to put sensitive applications at risk for the sake of decentralization. \n\n**🧪 Where does Notebook fit in the identity space?** \n\nCurrently, Web3 identities are either non-accountable (e.g. wallet address, Polygon ID, Sign-in with Ethereum, Gitcoin Passport), where users can create multiple identities, or non-anonymized (e.g. Proof of Humanity, Bright ID, disco.xyz ). Powered by Zero-Knowledge Proofs, Notebook is decentralized, accountable, anonymous, and self-sovereign.\n\n**🪄 How does it work?** \n\nWhen creating their Notebook, users receive a mnemonic that they encrypt with a password through the Notebook app or chrome extension. They then have the option to enter personally identifying information like their SSN-4 or passport, what we call “Strong Proof-of-Humanity”, or authenticate with Twitter, “Weak Proof-of-Humanity.” With Weak PoH, user humanity can also be verified through an analysis of the user’s social graph. By using Zero-Knowledge proofs, neither Notebook Labs nor any other company knows the link between a user’s personal information and their Notebook. If a user chooses to not verify their humanity, they can still prove and develop on-chain credentials, but protocols can prevent them from accessing sensitive services.\n\nWith just a few lines of code, protocols can verify a user’s credentials and Proof-of-Humanity through their Notebook. Protocols can then record credentials, with the user’s permission, like credit scores, illicit content posting flags, and DAO engagement. This process is called Know Your Business (KYB).\n\nThis a **time-consuming and expensive** process that usually involve lawyers and other people to be completed. **A business can wait up to 3 months to open a bank account in Chile** and other countries in LatAm.\n\nWe allow our clients to solve this problem in a fast and automated way.\n\n### **How does it work?**\n\nThe only thing we need is your client’s company registration number (TIN equivalent) and we **gather the information for you**. This can be done using our dashboard or API. We also help our customers to request private documents that can’t be obtained from any source providing a white label on-boarding form. We also process and review the information of this documents so they don’t have to be manually reviewed.\n\nThe outcome is a company profile with all the information, documents and on-boarding steps our clients need **to make a solid decision.**\n\n### **This is something that had to be done!**\n\nIn previous experiences we struggled with this problem, paying up to $100 per customer on-boarding and waiting weeks until they were done. Some of our clients take less than 10 minutes to validate their users and we charge between 6-20 bucks for it.\n\nAs we hinted at the start, we once tried to invest our company’s money in a Chilean fintech and get rejected because they were not accepting business clients due to this issue. Each country has different compliance requirements, each platform has a different risk appetite, and simply checking the KYC boxes is usually not enough to prevent real fraud on a platform.\n\nOn an average, a company ends up integrating with **10+ identity providers** over time.
